A practical relationship audit for separating what feels good from what is working, what is failing and what both of you have been avoiding.

Most couples do not wake up one morning and decide their relationship is in trouble. It usually happens by accumulation. A conversation gets postponed. A resentment becomes normal. Sex changes. Money becomes tense. One person starts carrying more. Both people keep functioning, so the relationship still looks intact from the outside.

That is why a relationship audit matters. It gives you a way to stop asking only, "Do we love each other?" and start asking, "What is this relationship producing in real life?"

Love matters. So do behaviour, honesty, safety, effort, compatibility and direction.

Start with what is working

Do not begin an audit by hunting for failure. That distorts the picture.

Ask what the relationship currently does well.

  • Where do we still feel like a team?
  • What problems have we learned to solve well?
  • Where do I trust my partner without needing reassurance?
  • What parts of our life feel easier because we are together?
  • When do I feel most respected by this person?
  • What do I still admire about them?
  • What do they reliably bring to the relationship?

A healthy audit includes strengths because strengths tell you what is worth protecting.

It also helps you distinguish a difficult season from a relationship whose basic structure no longer works.

Then look at what keeps failing
